"It is with gratefulness that I thank Coach Kevin Amick for everything that he's done in building a nationally respected softball program at Jessup," William Jessup University Athletic Director Lance Von Vogt said. " Over the last decade Coach A has brought his unique sense of humor and unbridled energy to building a softball program while overcoming many limitations. Ultimately, Coach A found a way when many others would have said, 'there is no way'. Working as a part-time coach without a dedicated field on campus he instilled a culture of hard work, determination and persistence that has produced results year after year."
In his final season with Jessup, Amick has left his mark with many milestones achieved in the 2018 stint. This season marks the first national recognition for the softball program receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll, closing out the season ranked in three of the six releases.
The seven-year veteran also set the program's most wins record with a 31-16 finish, an 11-win turnaround from the 2017 season facing ranked opponents 24 times this season and going 11-13. In those 31 wins, Amick took them to their fourth-straight conference Championship tournament, and second-straight Championship game, while knocking off No.7 in the country Vanguard University from the running for the conference tournament title.
He has coached up a two-time All-American recipient (Brittany Lamar), 10 All-CalPac honorees and 8 All-GSAC award winners, two Conference Player of the Years, 3 Conference Pitcher of the Years, 26 Conference Player of the Weeks and 23 Scholar-Athletes.
Amick leaves his mark on William Jessup softball as the winningest coach in the program and most wins in Jessup Athletic's history with a 155-139 overall record.
"Coach Amick will always be a part of our athletic department growth and softball foundation," reflected Von Vogt. "The foundation that he has laid is something that the next coach will undoubtedly benefit from moving forward."
